International Day of Libraries

The students and teachers of Delhi Public School understand the importance of libraries in society and the central role they play in nurturing a love of reading in young minds. The International Day of Libraries, October 24, was celebrated in Delhi Public School, East of Kailash as a Bagless Day. The different classes took part in a plethora of activities designed to encourage the habit of reading in the students. The tiny tots of Nursery and Prep dressed up as their favourite characters and actively participated in picture reading. Class I played Match the Title with book titles and book covers as an outdoor activity to pique their interest about different books. The students of Class II turned into little writers. They wrote and illustrated their own story after a Story Telling Activity and presented their creative work to their peers. The students of Class III aced the Reading Detective Activity – a quiz on books and authors, after which they enjoyed a Treasure Hunt. Class V also participated in the Reading Detectives Activity. The students then displayed their creative talents by designing a cover for Roald Dahl books. 

Apart from these activities, Classes II, III and V participated in DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) while the Class IV team set up an Academic Fair in celebration of the International Day of Libraries. Ms. Usha Diptivilasa, the Headmistress accompanied the students to explore the collection of books in the Mobile Library of the Delhi Public Library which had set up its mobile van in the school campus. The students showed appreciation for the wonderful libraries they have access to, and showed great interest in registering in public libraries.
