Delhi Public School, East of Kailash and the newly inducted Theatre Club members organised a storytelling session in collaboration with the Korean Cultural Centre on 16th January, 2025. ‘Faithful Daughter Sim Cheong’, a Korean folktale about the bond between a father and daughter was enacted by the presenters. The story, depicted through minimal props, transcended cultural barriers and held the students enthralled. The students gained much insight into theatre and storytelling, especially the use of a sparse set and few actors. At the wrap of the session, the students posed their questions to the presenters who graciously interacted with the children and answered their questions. Snippets from ‘Aladdin Reimagined’, a part of the 50 years’ celebrations, were re-enacted by the members of the Theatre Club. The session renewed the students’ interest in theatre and the different ways in which a story is depicted on the stage.
It was an enriching experience for the students and incited an interest not only in different cultures and folktales but also the nitty gritties of theatre and storytelling.
